No Wake Zone Sought for Jenness Cove
|
The Conservancy had initiated the process of obtaining “no wake” designation from the State for the channels around Old Huntress Island and all of Jenness Cove (see map). Don Trudeau spearheaded the work (279-4647, [email protected]). The objectives of a “no wake” designation are to increase safety for other water activities in the cove, to reduce wave erosion of the shoreline and to enhance the habitat for nesting loons and other wildlife.
The process took about a year to complete. The first step of obtaining signatures on a petition was taken. The petition, application and supporting materials were then submitted to the State. The state then held a public hearing in Meredith. At that hearing there was only one objector to the petition's goal of creating the no-wake zone, stating it was not needed. In spite of every other abutter to the cove, and many other concerned property owners, having signed the petition the state declined the request. |
The proposed no-wake zone is shown in blue.
