Measuring the level & flow in the Waukewan canal
The canal level can be measured using the staff gage installed near the auto bridge in the parking lot. Until December 2012, the level was measured by the DES using an electronic level gage located with the staff gage.
Flow in the canal can be determined fairly accurately by measuring the time in seconds for a floating object in the middle half of the stream to travel between the inside of the auto bridge and inside of the foot bridge (the reference distance in the figure). |
